2016 saw the official opening of the world’s first exclusively Bollywood themed park. The park was completed by Dubai Parks and Resorts as part of regional push towards the lucrative global theme park market. The Bollywood film industry produces over 200 films a year and has captivated the hearts and minds of people all over the world. Dubai Parks and Resorts have created a theme park that captures the magic and vivid colours of the Bollywood films.
Sim Leisure was engaged directly by the client for the show package. The scope included large aged street art murals, working stunt vehicles, over 1000 authentic show props and various thematic elements throughout the park. We also produced life size models of two of Bollywood’s biggest characters Krrish and G-One. Each area required the expertise of specialist sculptors, electro mechanical technicians, special effect technicians and artists.
Aged Street Art Murals
The aged street art murals were produced using a number of techniques. Some of the largest street art stencils ever produced in the Middle East were used to create spectacular results. The largest of these murals is over 2,800 square feet. It can be viewed as the backdrop for the stage and eclectic new bar, ‘Rock On!’ based on the Bollywood hit of the same name.
Stunt Show and Vehicles
Creating a vehicle from the ground up is no easy task. Creating two which are required to perform daily stunt shows is even more challenging. Working closely with top international experts, Sim Leisure produced two replica Mahindra jeeps capable of launching to top speed in seconds. The purpose built vehicles can been seen daily screeching and sliding as part of the Dabangg stunt show.
Added effects were required to bolster the impact of the show. The cars burst to life through two specially designed doors which incorporate pyrotechnics and smoke effects. The combination the perfectly timed effects and skilfully driven vehicles, give the audience a thrilling live experience.
Show Props and Scenic Effects
To create an authentic park experience that remained true to the Bollywood films meant we needed to provide as close to the genuine article as possible. Each item was meticulously checked by a team of Bollywood art directors before it could be used. Our specialist team took a number of trips to India to source the majority of the items to ensure we met the client’s requirements. Aging and thematic effects were added to the items for maximum effect.
Not all themed items can simply be purchased and themed which meant we needed to produce several items from start to finish. These included a beautifully finished hand carved façade, two oversized elephants and ornate cricket ball themed lights amongst many others.
The experience of working at such a unique park has expanded our reach into new areas of theming and attraction production. We expect the Bollywood Park to become a staple favourite for visitors to the region and Sim Leisure feels privileged to be part of the team who created this fantastic park.
